226 migrants apprehended crossing the border in one go in 24 hours

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents arrested more than 226 migrants at a single border crossing over a 24-hour period. The arrests are part of a record number of migrants crossing along the southwestern border with Mexico.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Brian Hastings tweeted photos Thursday and Friday of agents arresting two large groups of migrants at a single border crossing.

According to Hastings, in the early hours of April 8, Rio Grande City agents arrested a group of more than 100 migrants near La Grulla, Texas. Agents had arrested another 126 migrants at the same location less than 24 hours earlier.

Unofficial arrest figures, obtained from a source linked to US Customs and Border Protection, told Breitbart Texas that Rio Grande Valley sector agents arrested nearly 44,000 migrants in March. This was part of a total of about 209,000 migrants detained by Border Patrol agents along the entire southwestern border with Mexico.

The March fears put the total in the first six months of fiscal 2022 at more than a million, Breitbart reported. The source revealed the staggering number of fears that appear to be still growing.

Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are expected to be overwhelmed with migrants in the days and weeks following the expected end of Title 42 in late May. Many federal law enforcement agencies are said to be running out of resources as they respond to the expected surge in already record-breaking border crossings.

Texas Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) told Fox News on Wednesday that the government expects about 500,000 migrants will cross the border in the weeks after Title 42 ends.

“You’re talking about 500,000 in the next five weeks,” McCaul told Fox News. “That would be 100,000 people coming into the country every week. We don’t know who they are.”

In response, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Defense to begin rehearsals to respond to the mass migration along the state line with Mexico.

During Wednesday’s news conference, Governor Abbott also announced plans to bring migrants released by federal officials in Texas to Washington, DC, Breitbart reported.

“We’re taking them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more directly address the needs of the people they allow to come across our border,” the governor added. The governor signed the letter to TDEM chief Nim Kid ordering the action.

“Texans have a backbone and a will to secure our border,” Abbott said. “Two things Joe Biden doesn’t have.”

The governor added that the Biden administration is moving already released migrants from the border region to San Antonio.

“I have a better idea,” he explained. “Instead of taking these people by bus to San Antonio, we’re going on – all the way to Washington, DC”
