The Biden administration is recalibrating Russia’s nuclear strategy

The “kinetic” aspect of the Ukrainian conflict has so far played out almost entirely on Ukrainian territory, but the impact on the world’s strategic balance is still huge – especially in the nuclear sphere, as Vladimir Putin places his nuclear forces under a “special regime of combat duty” just two days after his army invaded the neighboring country.

The Biden government and other NATO governments are now trying to overhaul their strategy for a Russian nuclear escalation or even an accident with nuclear reactors or waste disposal sites damaged by the invading forces.

GOP Senator: Joe Biden should stop talking

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, a right-wing Republican, has attacked Joe Biden for his unwritten line declaring that Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.”

“I really think it would be best for everyone involved to get Joe Biden involved, but especially for the American people if the President just stopped speaking publicly in an unprepared way,” he said in an interview with right-wing radio host Hugh Hewitt yesterday, adding that he doesn’t think the President should be “adlib” or even “ask questions or hold press conferences”.

“If we could get Joe Biden to consciously speak out words that have been carefully checked and verified for three years … that would be safer than what happened in the last five days.”

Mr. Cotton’s grandiose proposal contradicts criticism from many on the right, who have long tried to claim that Mr. Biden is overly resilient when it comes to speaking to the press or answering questions.

Joe Biden yesterday signed legislation making lynching a federal hate crime, a measure that has been waiting to become law for more than a century.

Named for Emmett Till, the black teenager whose brutal murder in 1955 helped spark the civil rights movement, the bill received just seven “no” votes in the House of Representatives and passed unanimously in the Senate.

“From the bullets in the back of Ahmaud Arbery, to countless acts of violence, countless victims known and unknown … Racial hatred is not an old problem, it’s an ongoing problem,” Biden said at the signing ceremony. “Hate never goes away. It’s just hiding, it’s hiding under the rocks. With little oxygen, it comes out roaring and screaming. What stops it is all of us, not a few.”
