It’s another busy week for indie developers and game fans: three promising games are on the agenda for Steam (and partly GoG) this week, including an early access release and a final release. We briefly introduce Stray, Robber Knight, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II and other games.
What is Stray about?
Stray is on the Steam release schedule on July 19th, i.e. on Tuesday. It was only at the beginning of July that the cyberpunk cat adventure secured the coveted number 1 of the games that have the most wish list entries among Steam players. Whether everyone then hits the release right away is of course another matter, but Stray seems certain to get attention. For those unfamiliar with the game, Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set in the detailed neon-lit alleyways of a crumbling cybercity and the grim environment of its seedy underground. The last trailer showed a detailed and lovingly designed game environment through which we control the main character from the third person perspective, namely an (injured at the beginning) street cat.
What is Robber Barons about? (attempt 2)
Already last week, Raubritter was supposed to go into Early Access on Steam, but we had already noticed at the time that the developer actually wanted to implement some changes from the demo. And so the developers also write on Steam: “We are sorry, but we are not satisfied with the result that we achieved today after merging our work. We are postponing the release for 8 days – so that we can offer you a good game can deliver”. The changes described below are extensive.
Raubritter wants to offer a bridge between survival sim, RPG and co-op games. The game is played in 1303 on the virtual German-Polish border, with a very uncertain political situation. As a knight you have many challenges. So you have to survive in the forest and build a camp before you can build up your gang of robber barons and spread fear and terror. The role-playing part includes the development of your own character, the base and your own gang. The simulation involves creating and upgrading weapons, expanding the camp and planning and executing raids. You can move your own base so that the guards cannot find you, or you can also expand your defenses.
What is Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II about?
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 is the direct sequel to the ARPG Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and was originally developed by Black Isle Studios. It was released on February 6, 2004 for Playstation 2 and Xbox, now there is a remaster, like part 1, which was released at the end of December 2021. The “very positive” user ratings at the time give reason to hope that part 2 will again be solid work. Higher resolutions, a co-op mode and remote play co-op via Steam seem assured. At GoG, the release is “coming soon”.
More Steam Games
But the three games mentioned are far from all the novelties of this week. Endling – Extinction is Forever, As Dusk Falls, Hazel Sky, Bail or Jail and TombStar are mentioned as examples.
