Dead By Daylight Board Game Kickstarter Now Live, Already Beats Pledge Goal

For many in the horror community, particularly those streaming content, Dead by daylight is a constant source of gaming entertainment. With the Sadako uprising Ringu DLC recently went live, the mix of online co-op survival with movie villains and monsters is still proving to be a recipe for success with a dedicated fan base. It’s so popular that a team is working to bring it into the board game realm. With the Kickstarter campaign now live, the site has already surpassed its intended goal.


According to the Kickstarter page, the developers of the board game version of Dead by daylight, known as Level 99 Games, was hoping to make $250,000 to fund the project. With 22 days to go and counting, the pledge currently stands at $337,556 at the time of writing, meaning it has managed to surpass the original amount by almost $100,000. The developer behind the customization is a team from New Mexico and is responsible for creating a number of board games such as BattleCON, Millennium Blades, surpass combat systemand more.

Just like in the video game source material, players can take on the role of either a survivor or the killer. Using “movement maps” players must explore the map to find generators while avoiding the killer. There are currently seven survival characters and six killer characters. At the moment it doesn’t look like this version will feature any of the licensed horror film villains. It is hoped that the Dead by daylight Board Game will be out this October, possibly as a Halloween release.

There are many tabletop and board game adaptations of video games, such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Stand outand even disco elysium, to show that a real-world equivalent of some big-name digital titles is something that fans are interested in. A post on Level 99 Games’ Kickstarter page states that the project is almost complete and is currently going through “factory prototype” approval, after which a 100-day production process will begin. Also, gameplay videos will be arriving soon.

As one of the best horror games to play online, Dead by daylight is enjoyed by millions all year round, not just on Halloween. Its stealth-based teamplay mechanics and ties to popular movie franchises make it an ideal game to stream on places like Twitch. It will be interesting to see if anyone decides to port the board game adaptation after release as well.

Dead by daylight is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
