Chelsea FC bosses have set several transfer targets for this summer. Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt is said to be at the top of the wish list. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s club is even willing to exchange a player for the 22-year-old’s services. Apparently, DFB striker Timo Werner could become part of the transfer business.
Possible barter deal with Timo Werner
According to a report in the Italian sports newspaper “Tuttosport”, Chelsea are said to have already made an offer for Matthijs de Ligt: The Blues are offering the Italian record world champions Juventus Turin, with whom the Dutchman is still under contract until 2024, a transfer fee and a player.
The person involved in the transfer should either be ex-Dortmund Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner. According to the British newspaper “Express”, the two are two of six players in the current squad that Chelsea bosses are not entirely convinced of. They also include Marcos Alonso, Hakim Ziyech, Kepa Arrizabalaga and captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Werner needs playing time for World Cup participation
A transfer could also make sense for Timo Werner, since the striker can only be recommended for national coach Hansi Flick if he has enough playing time for the upcoming World Cup in winter.
In the past season, Werner made 37 appearances in which he scored eleven goals, but he rarely played from the start. In the entire Premier League season, he completed just seven games over the full 90 minutes.
National coach Hansi Flick therefore made the national striker responsible for the past international matches at the beginning of June.
“We need players who are in rhythm. For Qatar in particular, it’s crucial that we have players with a lot of minutes. We don’t have time at all to fix anything. If there are condition deficits, it’s impossible to work on them again during a tournament.”
Matthijs de Ligt wants to leave Juventus
It remains to be seen whether Juventus Turin will accept the offer from the British football club. The club under Massimiliano Allegri is said to insist on a transfer fee of at least 100 million euros. De Ligt’s release clause is said to be as much as 120 million euros this summer.

De Ligt himself is likely to support the transfer to Chelsea: The 22-year-old’s advisor is said to have informed Juventus that her client would like to leave the Italian record world champion this summer. This was reported by the Italian sports newspaper “Corriere dello Sport”. The Dutchman is apparently not happy with the sporting development at Juve.
The change theater around Robert Lewandowski has been casting its shadow over FC Bayern for weeks. With Sadio Mané, the new signing from Liverpool, sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić made his dream transfer perfect. The fact that the whereabouts of wing racer Serge Gnabry is still uncertain seems to be receding into the background.
