Human Rights Campaign Strips Fox News of Preferred LGBTQ Employer Status: ‘Enough is Enough’

The largest LGBTQ advocacy group in the US has pulled out Fox Corporation its status as a preferred LGBTQ-friendly employer and released a harsh statement condemning the network for its recent coverage of the LGBTQ community.

The move comes as FoxNews attacks mercilessly Disney for the company’s belated resistance to the “don’t say gay” Law and for the entertainment giant’s efforts to include the LGBTQ community in its films and other projects.

The right-wing talk network has in recent days portrayed Disney as a “creepy” company that aims to sexualize young children and indoctrinate them with a radical LGBTQ agenda. That’s not to say that all of the comments were as explicit or fell under that umbrella. But the general tone of the network’s reporting has been along those lines.

Tucker Carlsonthe network’s top-rated host, even went so far as to allege that a Disney exec engaged in “sex offender” behavior for attempting to represent the LGBTQ lifestyle in various projects.

This extreme – frankly dark – rhetoric triggered it human rights campaign to Fox Corp.’s score. on its Corporate Equality Index, a status companies often work hard to achieve. In fact, Fox Corp. boasted previously rated 100% as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign.

“I can confirm that the Fox Corporation score is no longer 100 on the Corporate Equality Index,” according to the Human Rights Campaign spox Aryn Fields told me on Friday. Fox was informed of the human rights campaign’s decision via email early Friday afternoon…

“Enough is enough”

In explaining the decision to strip Fox of his status, the Human Rights Campaign issued a scathing statement. “Fox News has a history of sharing misinformation and disinformation about the LGBTQ+ community,” Fields said. “We know from our own research published earlier this week what their disinformation and misinformation means for the LGBTQ+ community: Persistent stigma and marginalization of transgender and non-binary people. At a time when transgender people – particularly transgender children – are being attacked in state buildings across the country, rhetoric has real consequences.”

“We can no longer allow Fox Corporation to maintain its score when Fox News personalities and contributors continue to deny the existence of transgender people, minimize the violence that transgender people face, label parents of LGBTQ+ youth as perverts or equate LGBTQ+ diversity leaders and inclusion efforts with sex offenders,” Fields added. “Each of these actions happened in the last 72 hours. Enough is enough.”

Fox’s answer

Fox Corp. does not comment on the matter. However, a Fox News spokesperson pointed out that the network had just shut down CaitlynJenner as a contributor this week. The Fox News spokesperson also pointed out the benefits the company offers to members of the LGBTQ community…
