Behrendt began his acting career after completing community service. He took lessons at the Theater Studio acting school in Hamburg and then worked at the Bremen Theater.
Behrendt occasionally appeared in some TV series in the 1980s. He became particularly successful as a television actor when he took on the role of crime scene investigator Max Ballauf in 1992. After a short break from 1994 to 1997, Behrendt is still part of the Crime scene teams from Cologne.
In addition to his Tatort career, Behrendt played various roles in successful film and television productions. Including the fictional Federal Chancellor Andreas Weyer in the television series “Kanzleramt” (2005).
Behrendt has already received several awards for his acting talent. Including the Golden Gong in 1998, the German Television Award in 2000 and the Bavarian Television Award in 2003.
Behrendt lives in a patchwork family: he himself has three children from his first marriage. He lives in Berlin with his second wife. She also has a child from a previous relationship.
Much more is not known about Behrendt’s private life. In a BILD am Sonntag interview, he only reveals a few pieces of information:
- Behrendt and his Tatort colleague Dietmar Bär are also good private friends
- The actor doesn’t like to go on vacation very often, his schedule is too full
In addition, Behrendt tells in a BILD interview in 2020 on the occasion of his 60th birthday how he can still be so dynamic: The now 62-year-old does gymnastics and keeps fit through a lot of exercise.
Away from everyday life as an actor, Behrendt supports a number of organizations, clubs and campaigns. For his commitment, he has already received the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and, among other things, the KIND Award.
