Marjorie Taylor Greene reports Jimmy Kimmel to Capitol Police for joking about Will Smith hitting her

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene reported Jimmy Kimmel to U.S. Capitol Police on Wednesday after the late-night host joked about Will Smith punching the Georgia Republican.

“ABC, this threat of violence against me by Jimmy Kimmel has been filed with Capitol Police,” she wrote on social media Wednesday.

During his monologue on Tuesday night, the Jimmy Kimmel Live! The host made a joke about Ms Greene’s comments about Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation process.

Earlier in the week, the Georgia representative hammered fellow Republicans in Congress Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Mitt Romney for saying they would vote for the Biden administration’s nominee, comparing it to “pro-paedophile.”

“Wow, where’s Will Smith when you really need him?” Mr Kimmel said, referring to the actor’s infamous slap in the face by Chris Rock during this year’s Academy Awards.

The Independent has reached out to Mr. Kimmel and Capitol Police for comment.

“Our office takes all threats of violence against the congresswoman very seriously,” said a spokeswoman for Marjorie Taylor Greene The Independent. “Last night Jimmy Kimmel called for violence against Congresswoman Greene. That will not be tolerated.”

Republicans have increasingly introduced anti-LGTB+ legislation in the run-up to Midterms 2022, branding their enemies pro-pedophiles or soft on sex crimes, which many observers say is something between a QAnon dog whistle and a culture war call being fired should the base up.

During Judge Jackson’s confirmation hearings, numerous Republican senators accused her, and representative Democrats, of being soft on sex offenders because the appellate judge had at times deviated from sentencing general guidelines in sex crimes cases, decisions that she considered individual circumstances to be justifiably defended .

During his routine, Mr. Kimmel said it is indeed Ms. Greene who is dealing with sex crimes and noted her friendship with US Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida, who was reportedly charged with alleged sex trafficking, obstruction of justice, payment for sex and a relationship having with a teenage girl with a teenage girl. The Florida Republican has not been charged with any crime and has denied the allegations.

“This woman is good friends with Matt Gaetz, who is currently under investigation for child sex trafficking! It’s scum and scum,” Mr Kimmel said.

Ms. Greene has sometimes used menacing rhetoric in her own campaign comments.

In a now-deleted 2020 campaign image, she posed with an assault rifle near photos of Democratic congressmen, who are all women of color, and vowed to “go on the offensive against these socialists who want to tear our country apart.” ”
