Quit Developer Says He Deleted Tweets Because Concept Changed

Abandoned’s mass tweak of tweets was supposedly to avoid confusion because the game has changed tack.

Discontinued developer Blue Box deleted most of their tweets about the game last week, leading many to believe the game was “abandoned.” Fitting. But in a recent interview with IGN, director Hasan Kahraman clarified that’s because the concept has changed.

“Basically, the tweets were deleted because of some conceptual change, and I thought maybe it would be a better idea to just delete the tweet and then tweet more relevant information — which wasn’t actually a good idea,” Kahraman said to IGN. “I’ve now learned to just keep them. Even if the information or the concept has changed, just keep the older information because people will see for themselves what the difference is and then see what is more up-to-date.”

Abandoned still has a long way to go, but Kahraman says a prologue is underway and it’s not a demo. It will reportedly be a standalone and budget game with trophies that will run for about two hours, building upon the actual main game. But according to DreamcastGuy, who claims to have spoken to Kahraman, Blue Box is “out of money” and “years until the story is finished” while the prologue is meant to fund the entire game.

As far as pricing goes, it will be on the lower end of the scale given its length, but proceeds are set to go towards the development of Abandoned.

The question of the legitimacy of Abandoned arises. The studio has an alleged track record of promising games, releasing broken builds, and wordlessly “abandoning” projects.

Many believed deleting the tweets was a continuation of this success story, with the name “Abandoned” being a cheeky hoax, but DreamcastGuy asked Kahraman about these claims and “he acted like it was all a big misunderstanding.” If true, it might Abandoned may be a real project on the horizon, but for now we’ll have to wait for the prologue.
