A Razer Kraken gaming headset appears to have saved the wearer’s life by dodging a stray bullet that came through their window, in what appears to be a remarkable piece of luck.
User Enough_Dance_956 shared his story on Reddit, saying they were sitting at their home in California chatting with their friends early in the morning when a stray bullet went through their window and ricocheted off the headphones they were wearing.
They shared several photos showing their window – with what appeared to be a bullet hole – the damaged headset and the bullet itself.
“The bullet went through my window into my headset and bounced off the wall and landed on my bed,” the Redditor said.
“Without the high-quality headphones, I would have been a dead child by the age of 18. I couldn’t even imagine the suffering my family and friends would go through,” they added.
“It came from a block away. It was a stray bullet. Someone with bad aim almost killed me while I was talking to my friends.”
It is not known why the bullet was fired, but when the Redditor points this outif they weren’t wearing the headset or sat just an inch or two forward in their seat, they might not have been there to share the story.
The alleged incident occurred in the town of Torrance. Police reportedly removed the bullet after being called to the home.
Many commenters on Reddit called the story a hoax, prompting Enough_Dance_956 to upload more photos. They show a dent in the wall where the bullet, allegedly a 9mm round, allegedly ricocheted off, as well as the bullet itself.
Without seeing a filed police report, we can’t be entirely sure that the incident happened as the Redditor described it. But the images are compelling evidence that a bullet was actually fired through her window.
Whether the specific design of the Razer Kraken was responsible for saving that person’s life, we wouldn’t bet. It’s likely that any rugged headset with a strong metal frame and headband would have offered similar protection.
TechRadar can confirm that Razer reached out to the Redditor to verify everything was ok and offered them a replacement Kraken headset, among other goodies.
We have contacted the Torrance Police Department who have informed us that they are reviewing reports of the incident – we will update you when we have any news.
