This Ugreen 100W GaN Charger is the only one you need for on the go

Hopefully we’ll be traveling more for business soon. I know we should hold meetings over Zoom or Microsoft Teams, but sometimes when you’re interviewing or closing a deal, nothing beats an in-person meeting. As we get back into the travel buzz, packing a bag with clothes and the tech we need to work becomes routine again.

If you can step back a few years, when we were all just walking around, you probably remember the palaver of packing a charger for your smartphone, another for your laptop, and maybe even one for your tablet. Soon your hand luggage will be so full of chargers and cables that there will be no room for a change of clothes. The latest multi-charger to land on my desk is the Ugreen Nexode 100W charger. This admirably compact little GaN charger fits in the palm of your hand and offers a choice of voltages from 5V up to 22.5V for laptops. And with 100W of power, there’s plenty of power for even Apple’s most power-hungry MacBook Pros.

The version of the charger I was looking at has a US-style two-pronged plug that swings out of the charger’s body. It has some cutting-edge features and covers most fast charging protocols. Whether the charger will be used to power and charge Apple, Samsung, Google devices.

In addition to being able to charge devices quickly, the Ugreen Nexode charger is more efficient than traditional chargers. GaN chips can operate at a higher voltage and waste less energy through heat generation. Ugreen sources its GaN integrated circuits from Navitas, which provide consistent charging across multiple generations of cell phones and computers.

The Nexode charger features 3 USB-C ports plus one USB-A port that delivers up to 100W total power to charge phones, tablets, laptops and more simultaneously. With a charge time three times faster than the original iPhone charger, the Ugreen Nexode can charge an Apple iPhone 13 to 60% of its capacity in around 30 minutes. It can fully charge a MacBook Pro 16-inc in just 1.5 hours.

Ugreen’s Power-X system used in the charger can intelligently adjust the output power to protect the battery of each device. The OTP system takes five temperature readings every second for added security. If there are signs of overheating, it switches off.

Another major benefit of using a GaN charger is that the GaN chip manufacturing process has lower CO emissions2 Footprint ten times smaller than silicon-based chip manufacturing. Even better, GaN chips are more efficient than silicon because they use less power.

As well as the US style charger there is also a version made specifically for the UK market. It’s not quite as neat as the US version, but that’s because the UK plug design is quite bulky. It would be great to see a version of this brilliant little charger with adapters for the different types of sockets around the world.

Verdict: The extremely efficient Ugreen Nexode 100W charger is a real mess and means you only need to take one charger with you on holiday or business trips. It can charge almost anything and charging times are fast due to GaN technology. The energy efficient nature of the charger makes it more environmentally friendly to use. If you want to take fewer chargers with you when you travel, the Ugreen Nexode 100W is perfect. Recommended.
