Trump rally today: Ali Alexander to work with DoJ as records of gifts to ex-president ‘missing’

Mitch McConnell explains why he will continue to support Donald Trump

Ali Alexander, the organizer of several “stop the steal” rallies against the 2020 election, will cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation into the 2021 Capitol riots, his attorney says.

Meanwhile, the US State Department says Donald Trump and other White House officials have left office without providing records of the gifts they received from foreign governments.

In other news, Mitch McConnell says he will vote for Mr Trump in 2024 if the former president runs for another term, saying it is his “obligation” to support the party’s nominee.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump’s legal troubles continue as New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a motion to contempt him for failing to comply with a court order to produce documents in her ongoing civil investigation. Her office wants him to pay $10,000 a day until he hands over the documents.

In a statement, Mr Trump slammed Ms James for an “absolute violation” of his civil rights and called her a “Democratic Party agent in a political prosecution” against him.

Meanwhile, investigators in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s criminal investigation into Mr Trump’s business dealings are reviewing “evidence not previously examined.”

In other legal news, a North Carolina man became the second member of the extremist group Proud Boys to plead guilty to conspiracy in connection with the Capitol riot. He will work with prosecutors against other members of the group.

New York AG forces real estate company to testify in Trump investigation

New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a motion to compel Cushman & Wakefield, a global real estate firm, to testify in its probe into Donald Trump’s financial dealings. So far, the law firm has refused to comply with subpoenas from its office.

“There should be no doubt that information about Cushman’s evaluation work for the Trump Organization is relevant to our efforts and that Cushman – like any other party – cannot resist a lawful subpoena because no one is above the law,” Ms. James said in a statement on Friday.

McConnell explains why he would support Trump in 2024 even though he loathes him

Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are anything but sworn enemies. Their mutual antipathy dates back years and deepened even further, with Mr McConnell first refusing to say the 2020 election was stolen and then condemning the President for his role in instigating the January 6 riot (although he voted to acquit him at his impeachment trial).

And yet Mr McConnell has announced he will vote for Mr Trump in 2024 if the former president runs for another term, as is widely expected.

“Well, as Republican leader of the Senate, it shouldn’t be a front-page headline that I’m going to endorse the Republican nominee for president,” he said in an interview with axiosis Jonathan Swan. “I believe I have an obligation to support my party’s candidate.”
