You must play the most stylish RPG ever before it leaves PlayStation Plus

This high school hijinks JRPG deviates from the genre’s typical fantasy settings to tell a sprawling, meaningful story that anime fans will love.

individual 5 is leaving PlayStation Plus on May 11, but if you’re intrigued by the game’s premise and immersive visuals, it’s worth getting started now. This isn’t a game you can play through in a weekend – a full playthrough can easily take over 100 hours. (Trust us, it’s worth it.)

This time you are a criminal. Well, supposedly. Time rewinds and the story unfolds from the beginning of a long chain of events to the protagonist’s “capture”. It’s a refreshing change from the lengthy tutorials and plots of other RPGs.

individual 5The story of unfolds in a non-linear way, starting at the end, going back to the beginning and jumping between moments in time. This adds cinematic flair to an otherwise simple premise.

It’s also the story of a team of troubled teenagers – all charming and multi-faceted in their own way. When you’re not exploring dungeons at night, you’re deepening your relationships with your friends, teammates, and colleagues through the game’s Confidants system. The stronger these bonds become, the more powerful you will be against the shadows that threaten the world.

individual 5 reinvigorated turn-based combat in RPGs, which was largely out of fashion by the time it was first released in 2016. Use clever strategy and exploit enemies’ weaknesses, and you’ll be rewarded with bonus damage and cinematic eye-catchers that make combat feel both fast-firing and unique. Dungeons can be quite long and intense, but the graphics and storytelling should help ease the grind. (Don’t even get me started on the music.)

However, if you tend to get stuck in games that involve a lot of reading and slow plot twists that unfold over dozens of hours, this might not be the game for you.

Sony didn’t specify why individual 5 leaves PlayStation Plus. It’s also the first game to leave the service, making the situation even more unusual. Once Sony adds a game to its subscription library, it usually stays there. It’s not like Xbox Game Pass, where games come in and out monthly.
